The Institution (Revisited)

Marking the twentieth anniversary of The Institution at Chapter in 2005, Andre Stitt presents The Institution (Revisited) - a new installation and durational performance featuring an ensemble of Welsh and international artists. Investigating memory and its failure and the afterlives of trauma.

The Institution (2005) was an installation and site of ‘akshun’ that investigated space as a vehicle for tracing the repression and recovery of memory, commissioned by Chapter in 2005 as part of Stitt’s solo exhibition, Reclamation. Returning to performance after a twelve-year hiatus, the artist will stage a five-hour re-imagining of the original with guest artists
Sinéad O’Donnell (Ireland), Jamie McMurry (USA), and Charlie Lockwood (Wales)

We Should Not March To The Beat Of The Same Drum

Drawing on Homi Bhabha’s notion of the ‘third space’—where cultural meaning is negotiated rather than fixed—this live performance explores the tensions between heritage and innovation, collective memory and individual expression.

Fort Dunree—a site where military history intersects with contemporary art—serves as the starting point for Rebecca Strain and Martha McCulloch’s 2023-24 body of work. This live performance emerges from that exploration, seeking a space between past and present, individual and society.

Medieval Marginalia - Noel Molloy

Bbeyond member Noel Molloy in a group exhibition in Birkenhead.

Hosted in their atmospheric gallery, a former bank vault turned creative space, this exhibition draws inspiration from the strange, whimsical, and often profound world of medieval marginalia.

Works displayed within this exciting new group show respond to the theme of reinterpreting these illustrations. These mysterious doodles and scribbles, once hidden in the margins of ancient manuscripts, are now an artistic springboard.
